How often should you do Pilates?

Of all the Pilates questions we receive, one of the most frequently asked is “How often should I practice/attend class?”

You’ve also undoubtedly heard the famous quote by Joseph Pilates “In 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference, in 20 sessions you’ll see the difference, and in 30 sessions you’ll have a whole new body.”

Pilates certainly can transform your body, but it does so through dedicated practice and commitment, not by magic. For context, the above quote by Joe referenced his students who were taking at least 3 private classes per week. When working with him, he required their concentration and precision. He expected his students to practice outside of the studio on their own time as well.

Of course, 3 private sessions every week is not realistic for most people (though a private class every now and again will definitely improve your practice). The next best and more realistic option is small group classes with individualized attention, like the ones offered at Pilates360.

A minimum of 12 classes per month will give you the best and fastest results. Like any pursuit, physical or otherwise, “practice makes perfect.” Although in Pilates, the more correct statement would be “practice makes precise.” The more precise your movements, the fewer repetitions required, and the greater the results.

You can supplement your studio classes with mat Pilates at home. This is also a great option while the studios are closed over Christmas and/or when you’re away on holidays.

We’ve made some great “homework” videos with P360 Instructor Saniya to give you guidance on good pilates exercises that you can do at home, by the pool, or even at the beach! Watch the videos below, and they can be viewed on our Facebook page as well.
